How silicone seals work in extreme environments

Flame retardant rubber sheet pressing, and natural rubber rubber than, the first is the shortening rate is large, rough appearance, thickness is difficult to manipulate.

In all kinds of extreme environments, the normal operation of equipment faces great challenges, but silicone seals can rely on their own characteristics, excellent sealing mission.

## High temperature resistant environments

In high-temperature industrial scenarios such as chemical refining and steel smelting, high temperatures of up to several hundred degrees Celsius can be generated during equipment operation. Silicone seals are able to cope with such high temperatures thanks to their unique chemical structure. Ordinary rubber at high temperatures, the molecular chain will gradually break, resulting in a decline in performance. However, the silicone-oxygen bond (Si-O) in the silicone molecule has a high bond energy and is highly stable. When the temperature rises, the silicone-oxygen bond can still remain relatively stable, so that silicone seals will not easily soften and deform. At the same time, the special additive formula further enhances its high-temperature resistance, in a high-temperature environment, it can still maintain good elasticity, closely fit the sealing surface to prevent fluid leakage.

## Resistant to low-temperature environments

In low-temperature environments such as polar research equipment and ultra-low-temperature refrigeration equipment, ordinary materials can harden and become brittle due to low temperatures, losing their sealing function. Silicone seals, however, perform well because of the flexibility of their molecular chains. At low temperatures, the movement of silicone molecular chain will slow down, but still can maintain a certain degree of flexibility. Even if the temperature drops to minus tens of degrees Celsius, it can still be like a low-temperature “elastic guard”, to maintain the elasticity, to ensure that the seal has no gaps, to prevent the intrusion of air, water vapor and so on.

## Corrosion resistant environments

In chemical production, sewage treatment and other corrosive media environment, silicone seals with its chemical stability to stand firm. It has good resistance to common acids, alkalis, salt solutions and organic solvents. This is because the silicone itself does not react with most chemicals, and its surface is not easily eroded by corrosive media. In the process of long-term contact with corrosive substances, silicone seals can maintain their own structural and performance integrity, always providing reliable sealing protection for the equipment.

In extreme environments, silicone seals become a solid line of defense for equipment sealing by virtue of their high temperature, low temperature and corrosion-resistant properties, guaranteeing the stable operation of various types of equipment in harsh conditions.
