Hydrogenated nitrile rubber (HNBR) stands out among many industrial fields due to its excellent thermal aging performance and has become one of the preferred high-performance rubber materials.
From a chemical structure perspective, hydrogenated nitrile rubber is obtained by hydrogenation treatment of unsaturated double bonds in the nitrile rubber molecular chain. This unique hydrogenation process significantly reduces weak links in the molecular chain, enhances intermolecular forces, and significantly improves the resistance of HNBR to thermal aging.
In terms of actual performance data, ordinary nitrile rubber may only maintain a tensile strength retention rate of 50% -60% after 72 hours of hot air aging at 100 ℃, while hydrogenated nitrile rubber can achieve a tensile strength retention rate of over 80% after the same 72 hours of hot air aging at 100 ℃. For example, a certain model of hydrogenated nitrile rubber has an initial tensile strength of 25MPa and can still maintain around 20MPa after aging, demonstrating excellent resistance to thermal degradation. In terms of hardness changes, ordinary rubber may increase its hardness by 10-15 Shore A after thermal aging, affecting its flexibility and sealing performance, while hydrogenated nitrile rubber usually controls the increase in hardness within 5 Shore A, which can better maintain the original performance of the product.
In the application of seals in automotive engines, long-term operation of the engine can generate high temperatures. Ordinary rubber seals are prone to aging, hardening, and loss of elasticity in high-temperature environments, leading to seal failure and oil leakage problems. Seals made of hydrogenated nitrile rubber can work stably for a long time at temperatures of 150 ℃ or even higher. Even after thousands of hours of high temperature testing, it can still maintain good sealing performance, effectively prevent oil, coolant and other leaks, ensure the normal operation of the engine, and extend the service life of the engine.
In the field of pipeline sealing in the petrochemical industry, the medium transported by pipelines often has high temperatures and contains various chemical substances. Hydrogenated nitrile rubber, with its excellent thermal aging performance and chemical stability, can maintain structural integrity and sealing performance in such harsh environments. Compared with ordinary rubber sealing materials, the replacement cycle of hydrogenated nitrile rubber seals can be extended by 2-3 times, greatly reducing equipment maintenance costs and production interruption risks caused by seal failure.
